The Yukon offers elective opportunities in select communities, subject to preceptor availability.

Seeking YMA funding support?

Medical students and residents may be eligible to apply for financial support through the YMA Resident and Medical Student Support Fund.

Funding is limited and must be pre-approved before travel arrangements are made or expenses are incurred. Pre-approval is required before a claim can be submitted.  This is a new requirment please see FAQs for more details.

Licensing and hospital privileges

  • Students and residents are responsible for ensuring all licensing and hospital privilege requirements are completed before beginning their elective.

Educational Licence

All licensing questions should be directed to the Yukon Medical Council. Please allow at least 30 business days for this process to be completed.

Educational Hospital Privileges

  • All hospital privilege requests should be directed to Yukon Hospital Corporation at: yhchospitalprivileges@wgh.yk.ca

  • Please allow at least 30 business days for this process to be completed.

Accommodation and travel support

If you require assistance finding accommodation or coordinating travel logistics, please contact Carly Cox, Physician/Locum Recruiter carly.cox@yukondoctors.ca.

Visiting Specialist Clinic residents

  • Residents who attend the Visiting Specialist Clinic with a preceptor may be eligible to apply to the YMA Resident and Medical Student Support Fund for financial assistance with travel and accommodation.
  • Please review the funding guidelines and complete a pre-approval form before making travel arrangements.
